Title: Looking for a USB Lost data recovery tool! (freeware)
Post by: Aerendur on 13 March, 2015, 03:23:11 PM
As the title says. Looking for a good datarecovery tool for a colleague. But all the versions I found in my first search stop working after X files/mb. Anyone have a good alternative that doesn't have these restrictions?

I have had some success with mounting a Windows disk with Linux and copying files off.
I say windows disk, but have done same with usb drives too.

Not sure if you have tried or not.

My first suggestion would be Linux, yes. Many, many moons ago I tried a program called foremost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foremost_%28software%29).

There should be quite a few options (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_data_recovery_software) for data recovery tools.
