Title: A warning to all forumusers

Lately we've seen some bots (no, not buffbots) signing up on our forum and making posts containing naughtly links and trojan horses.

Before you click on a link, check when the user signed up.. if it's 5 minutes before "he" posted some suspicious looking link.. even if it's the same day .. use caution.

I've sent a PM to our beloved forumowner adoc to see if it's possible to tighten up on the sign up security.

I'll also be deleting all posts/threads made by these bots that I can see.. oh and of course, roughly half of Hanzas posts :)

I've now activated the email activation thingy ..

in other words.. new users have to enter a valid email adress when they sign up, or else it will fail. Wee!

let's see how that works out :)

Ganame is having a problem requesting a new password as he has forgot his original. These changes wouldn't have anything to do with it by any chance?

nope.. can't see anything. Does he get an error message? is the e-mail address registered on his user correct?

Thanks for looking into it. I've asked him in-game, and he doesn't get an error, but he also doesn't get an email. He clicks the forgot password link, and enters username and email, but nothing comes through. Been 45 mins since it was requested.

I just tried sending a pm to myself to test mail responsetime .. it has happend in the past that mail from forum is just really slow.

That's what I was wondering. I tried the same as Ganame to see how long it takes for the password email to come through.

took some time for it to pass. is it sorted now? if not ganame can probably PM jack or dub ingame and have them reset the forumpassword ..

Sorry, should have let you know. I eventually got my emails and I see that Ganame has posted on here since, so he must be ok too. Thanks for looking into it.

A valid e-mail address must be used when signing up now. This seems to stop most of those spambots.
