Question is, will it live up to all the expectations from all excisting/old DaoC'ers?

I do hope that he'll bring something awesome to the table and take the good stuff outta DaoC and improve it with modern technology. Grab bits n pieces from the sweet games out there, mix it up and release a game where we can get that good feeling back. I sincerely enjoy reading/listening to what he has to say and I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will happen.

Oh the joy!

I hadn't heard of kickstarter before, but damn if this isn't a brilliant idea:

edit: oh the game does sound interesting, will probably take a long time to develop though :o

If you don't have to follow a publishers idea but can do your very own stuff it might come out something really good. This is a chance... let's see what happens in the future with this project.

With all the MMORPG's out there I can't think of a true "revolution", though.

Not getting exited about this just yet. Why?

- Funding not secured, and if secured its going to be limited/restricted.
- Apperantly Kickstarter is like Dragons Den, if you dont get the full amount, you dont get anything.
- Pure RvR game will turn out more of a Call of Duty type of game, you need the mix.
- Mark Jacobs has failed in the past
- Its going to be atleast 3-5 years before we see it if it gets the funding. Anything less then its prolly ending up as a free to play game.

And the last of many points i cant be arsed to to type here
- Daoc was great because of us! It was never designed to be played the way it was by us! The salespitch was one of epic battles of hundreds n hundreds fighting for relics and keeps, not roaming a 8 man grp. It was also great. Also, can you imagnie a game like Daoc coming along now? You would quit within a few weeks unless you had a steady grp of people to play with all the time. I only stuck with it cause mmo´s was a new thing for me and there was really not much else to play, apart from footie manager   :)

My two cents atleast.

Anyone else that backed this mmo? Kickstarter for it launched today. (285k $ in the first hour :))
I backed 180 for internal testing.

I think 180 gets alpha access and 120 doesn't, but 110 does. It's all a bit odd.

Damn Lembit u are so negative, be positive for once, and DaoC is STILL a good game better then all pf the rest IMHO, its nowadays purely RVR but it is still a great game that have changed through the years, To solo theese days is damn hard i know that, but i dont play the game to play solo i like to grp up with my friends, DaoC RULES!!!

I do hope that new table is partly incorrect. Why would a 180 get less than a 120 on many points! :)

because 180 (which i pledged) makes you internal tester (pre alpha, as soon as they have an engine and can put characters in an open green field and have some combat mechanics in place, we are in) which none of the other tiers gives afaik.  with the 180 tier, they want hard core people who are willing to spend a lot more time and effort than the usual beta testers and who are expected instead of asked to write bug reports.  it's also the only tier that comes with an NDA.  this is not an 'ooh, more shinies' tier.  i'm (relatively)  sure there will be nice stuff to compensate for the efforts we put in at the end, but which they explicitly don't mention as not to attract the wrong people for those 500 internal tester slots.

yes, this tier doesn't fit in the logical hierarchy of the rest of the tiers.

Real-time Armies (Evening Update #2, April 10, 2013)
Update #13 · Apr 10, 2013 · 122 comments

Hi everyone! Andrew here.

In my first update last week, I showed off some of the rendering tech we want to use for Camelot Unchained, and talked about why we need to build a renderer and certain other components ourselves: Off the shelf, there's nothing that scales up to the epic battles we want to create.

Then, our art team showed off two of the races we're planning to put in the game: The Tuatha Dé Danann and the Vikings. There's some great concept art in those updates, as well as high-quality models for in-game.

Obviously, the next step is to put them together -- so we did! There are some further refinements and optimizations to the engine, and plenty more to be done, but I'll let the video speak for itself.

The next step for this, in terms of showing off what we want to do, is to hook this up to the networking layer of "CSE SmackHammer" from last week. We're working hard on this and a whole lot more, but for now, enjoy the show!

-Andrew

p.s. - We'll have a part 2, with even more video, first thing tomorrow morning.

[/font]

that's starting to look very sweet imho :)

Depends on how badly it fails, if it's like 100k short of the goal then they'll retry. If they're 500k short then prolly not.

500k short... i don't see that happening, surely not after yesterday's update...

Afternoon Update April 12, 2013
Update #16 · Apr 12, 2013 · 200 comments

Folks,

First, sorry for the delay in releasing this update. Unfortunately our video guy (who is also our lead artist & lead animator) had his back go out on him last night. He’s pushing through it but it has taken longer to get some things done today (amazing how pain does that to you). So, let’s give a big shout out to Scott and Michelle who over the last week have really made a herculean effort to bring these updates to you despite “stay at home” illnesses/injuries. Today's updates are presented in two parts. The first part is the basic intro and a shout out to our backers and an acknowledgement of two packages we received this week. Sorry I had to break up the video into two parts but I talk a bit too much about the stretch goals, especially the second one. I wonder why? ☺

Secondly, thanks to the folks who have sent “duck-inspired care packages” to our office. You guys and gals really are the best! I hope you enjoyed seeing them as much as we enjoyed getting them.

Finally, it’s stretch goal time! Our first goal is a fairly predictable one for any RPG Kickstarter, new races and classes. If we make our first goal, we will create three new races and classes with each realm getting one additional race and class. While the race is 100% TBD, our leading candidate for the additional class is an archer. Again, we don’t expect anyone is going to be surprised at that but hey, that’s what easy to reach stretch goals are all about on Kickstarter.

Now, as to the second stretch goal, this might be a somewhat controversial one. Rather than spend a lot of time talking about it now, I will end this update and let you watch the videos.

BTW, as to the “Here, every true son & daughter perishes” tease of last night well, it both as a tease, warning and if you take the first letter of each word you get: H E T S D P = D E P T H S. ☺

Enjoy the videos and if you like what you see, spread the word. Hell is not coming but The Depths await you in Camelot Unchained.

Part 1 - Intro and more ducks!

Part 2 - Stretch goals

-Mark

omg, Darkness Falls makes a comeback !  and a crafter might really be a fun class after all.

This looks like the first dungeon ever that I might enjoy :P
Title: Re: camelot unchained
Post by: Muylae on 13 April, 2013, 07:38:42 PM
For the people who didn't play DAoC, Darkness Falls is a gigantic, non linear rvr dungeon with 3 entrances, one in each realm, but only 1 entrance is open at any time. The realm which holds the most towers/keeps in the rvr zone has access. so at times there is a real struggle to capture that extra tower in rvr to get access to DF for your realm. When a new realm has the most 'structures' in rvr, that realm's 'gate' to DF opens and the other realm that had most access until then, their 'gate' to DF closes. This had the extra benefit that the 'dominant' realm would see some/loads of their players leave the rvr zone and hurry to DF, which is a great balancing tool. How is that a balancing tool ? Well the realm that has access would lose some of it's population in rvr because some of it's players would go to DF, thus decreasing their numbers in rvr and making it easier for the 2 other realms to conquer parts of the rvr map and get access to DF for their realm.

My interpretation of what MJ said in this update is that the Depths will have a similar mechanic of getting/losing access to the Depths.

I just love it.

The more I read/hear/see about CU the more I get curious ;)

I still think one major point for me is classes/skills/balance and such things. I really want to know how the CU Team wants to approach this AND I really hope, they don't end up changing and balancing (read: nerfing) everything I prolly might enjoy.

@ Joric : Just level one of each class and play the FOTM :)

I'm in for interntal testing at 180 dollar (140 euro or so).
Worth it I guess... Ever since I quit daoc, I'm longing for a game which can equal it. For 7 years now nothing has come close...

same, internal tester when it happens and i have been searching for something since the end of the EU daoc servers that can give me a similar experience.

CU is probably the closest thing that can give me a similar experience.

Biggest problem is that there are many parts to each discussion. You can't discuss balance part by part... So all the talking so far hopefully just gives the devs some good ideas or thoughts. But I doubt it can be taken as a serious discussion to shaping the game!

Still it's a fun read every now and then! Love the '8 man vs zergling' discussions!  :o Some things never change!

Biggest problem is that there are many parts to each discussion. You can't discuss balance part by part... So all the talking so far hopefully just gives the devs some good ideas or thoughts. But I doubt it can be taken as a serious discussion to shaping the game!

There should be room for both in my opinion. There's a lot of people that like zerging or just don't have a nice group ready for them to join and just want to randomly team up with a huge bunch. As long as it's not the only winning strategy this should be fine :P

Kristian Vad Bovtrup asked: I personally loved the 8 man groups in DAoC, how large do you see the groups being in CU?

We are still discussing group size but are comfortable saying that we too like 8 and think it could work in Camelot Unchained.
